I called Louise and introduced myself  setting up a time to meet later at her house. I stopped in Hatch to pick up some “world famous” green chilies. I don’t cook and have no idea what to do with them but they look really good! I stopped later for lunch at Lake Butte state park and made it to Louise’s house on time. She was gracious enough to let me plug in and rinse out my water tanks, it smelled as though I had picked up water with sulfur in it at Rock hound state park.

I was feeling quite welcome and in no hurry to leave Louise. The next morning we went to breakfast at this tiny little dive of a Mexican joint. The place was packed; I think I was the only white girl there, always a good sign. I labored over the menu, since leaving on this journey I no longer eat out, so my choice was critical. I decided what I wanted and our waitress comes over, asking Louise for her order. I totally new what I wanted until she ordered. Her order sounded so sexy and yummy, I wanted that! I had no idea what it was but the way she spoke and ordered I knew it had to be good. I’m sure I made a fool of myself turning into Meg Ryan in the dinner scene, it was that good. “Carne Adovada (pork with red chili), crispy fried potatoes with sopapillas and honey. “ We make it back to the house and Louise had tickets to the local “Lobo” basketball team, I camped out on her couch, watched some Olympics and napped after such a great meal.

Louise had volunteered to watch her cousins that night so their parents could have date night. Samuel who is 12, Teresa 10 and Annie 5. She went all out for them, we made spaghetti for dinner, with my contribution of burning the bread. She had a popcorn maker, cotton candy and an ice cream cake. We watched movies, played games and hung out, we had a blast. The kids loved checking out the motorhome and were amazed at the adventure. I think Annie outlasted all of us and stayed up the latest.

Talking to Kim and checking out the weather the next day, I decide I better move on or I’m going to keep the dresser and head south, she hasn’t missed it for a year, another 4 months wouldn’t kill her.
